Dad’s Morning Brew
- One of the themes of my column in OC Family magazine and will be for this blog is that sometimes you have to say no to children. They are children after all and they need our guidance and advice in circumnavigating through life. So if one of my children ask me, before their 18th birthday, if they can circumnavigate the globe in a sailboat by themselves, my answer is going to be a definite no. Now some of you may have seen this story about young Abby Sunderland who at 16 is trying to set the world record for the youngest person to sail around the world by herself. I don’t mean to stand in judgment of her parents, who are I’m sure good people. And to be fair, her brother Zac accomplished the same feat at the age of 17. But so many things can go wrong and I just feel like parents need to protect their children, sometimes from themselves. I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions.
